As a result of wrong agricultural policies, Turkey has become foreign dependent… Citizens pay the bills for wrong policies…
Despite the support given, the crisis in sunflower production was revealed by Russia's attack on Ukraine. With the poor management of the process in the field of agriculture, citizens desperately flocked to markets with the concern that they will not find oil. The images published on social media caused comments that 'it did not happen this way even in Ukraine'.
FEELING CONCERNED THAT THE WAR AFFECTS STOCKS AND PRICES WAS ENOUGH
After Russia started attacking Ukraine, prices for many products increased. The highest price increases were realized in agricultural products as a result of the wrong policies of the government in the field of agriculture. In addition to energy prices, increasing agricultural inputs and exchange rate differences in sunflower oil, the war with Russia and Ukraine, which has been going on for days, has affected the stock and prices of sunflower oil. Citizens flocked to the markets against the risk of running out of stocks and increasing prices.
PRICES BECOME AFFECTED BY WRONG POLICIES EVEN IN MINOR CRISIS
Turkey's agricultural policy came to the fore with the influx of citizens to the markets against the risk of depletion of the stocks of sunflower oil and the increase in prices. As a result of the agricultural policies implemented by the Justice and Development Party (AKP) during its 20-year rule, there has been a decrease in production in the field of agriculture, and in the slightest crisis, the prices of agricultural products, which we are dependent on, are affected. Affecting prices, on the other hand, affects the falling purchasing power of citizens more.
A MEASURE AGAINST LOW PURCHASING POWER
While the images published about the influx of citizens to the markets caused the comment that ‘such images did not appear even in Ukraine, where the war continues’, the citizens formed an oil queue in the markets as a precaution against the expected increases in oil prices in the face of falling purchasing power.
