Saadet Party Samsun Deputy Mehmet Karaman attended the breakfast program organized by his party in Samsun on the occasion of the White Cane Visually Impaired Week and listened to the problems of the visually impaired.
Samsun Deputy Mehmet Karaman, who attended the breakfast program organized by the Saadet Party Samsun Women's Branch, made a speech. He said that even basic steps such as eliminating the difficulties faced by disabled people in all areas of life, providing psychological and social support to ensure social adaptation, and developing employment opportunities in the public and private sectors are insufficient.
"There are more than 10 million disabled individuals"
Karaman pointed out that the unemployment rate among disabled people is approaching 85%.
"According to TÜİK data, there are more than 10 million disabled individuals in our country, which corresponds to 12.8% of the population. Unfortunately, a significant portion of these disabled citizens and their families are forced to live their lives in poverty, unemployment and despair. I say abandoned because the current economic conditions and insufficient government support are clear as day," Karaman said.
"SOCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR DISABLED PEOPLE IS INSUFFICIENT"
Stating that they always support disabled people and bring their problems to the agenda, Karaman stated that it should not be forgotten that everyone is a disabled candidate.
Karaman underlined that those who do not recognize obstacles should not be hindered.
"Transportation and accessibility problems of disabled people need to be solved as soon as possible and our cities must be designed to make the lives of disabled citizens easier. In addition, it is of great importance to carry out awareness raising activities to increase the awareness of all citizens, especially vehicle drivers, towards disabled people. We had previously said in our speech at the General Assembly of the Parliament that the social aid provided was insufficient. Disabled social aid should also be increased depending on inflation, should be increased to minimum wage levels, and its calculation should be based on individual income, not household income," Karaman added.
