The Unemployment Insurance Fund, which was established in 1999 to compensate the insured who became unemployed against their will for the loss of income, has continued to be the assurance of the unemployed since March 2002, when the first unemployment insurance payment was made.
The fund, which grows with 2 percent employer, 1 percent insured deductions and 1 percent state share income calculated based on the monthly gross earnings of the insured person, reached a size of 153 billion lira as of the end of August.
A total of 116 billion lira has been paid to 17 million 893 thousand people in the last 21 years from the fund that workers and employers benefit from with unemployment allowance, short-time work allowance, part-time work allowance, wage guarantee fund payment and cash wage support.
THE FUND SHRINKED DUE TO THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK
The fund, whose assets decreased from 131 billion lira to less than 90 billion lira in two years, with the resources provided to workers and employers within the scope of short-time working allowance and cash wage support during the Covid-19 pandemic, the income-expenditure balance was minus 28.3 billion lira in 2020 and minus 12.4 billion lira in 2021.
The size of the fund, which started to recover with the waning effect of the epidemic and normalization, reached 124 billion lira by the end of 2022.
PAYMENT IS MADE ACCORDING TO THE INSURANCE DURATION
Those who are unemployed must meet certain conditions in order to benefit from unemployment benefits. The person is unemployed due to his/her own will and fault, and is subject to a service contract for the last 120 days before the termination of the service contract, they can benefit from this allowance if they pay unemployment insurance premiums for at least 600 days in the last three years before the termination of their service contract and apply to Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR) within 30 days after the termination of their service contract.
180 days for insured unemployed people who worked with insurance for 600 days in the last three years before the termination of their service contract and paid unemployment insurance premiums, 240 days for insured unemployed people who worked with insurance for 900 days and paid this premium, insured unemployed people who have worked with insurance for 1080 days and paid premiums are given 300 days of unemployment benefit.
