Turkey Statistical Institute (TUIK), covering the period June-July-August announced the unemployment figures. Accordingly, unemployment in July was 10.8 percent. In June, the unemployment rate was announced as 10.2 percent with 3 million 315 thousand people.
Non-agricultural unemployment rate was estimated as 12.9% with 0.1 percentage points decrease. Unemployment rate in young population (15-24 years) was 19.9% with 1.2 percentage points decrease, and this rate was 11% with 0.1 point increase in 15-64 age group.
In July 2018, the number of employed persons increased by 507 thousand persons compared to the same period of the previous year and was realized as 29 million 265 thousand persons and employment rate increased by 0.2 points to 48.2%.
In this period, the number of employees in the agricultural sector decreased by 247 thousand, while the number of employees in non-agricultural sectors increased by 755 thousand. 19.7% of those employed in agriculture, 19.5% in industry, 6.9% in construction and 53.9% in service sector. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the share of agricultural sector in employment decreased by 1.2 points, while the share of construction sector decreased by 0.7 points, while the share of industry sector increased by 0.8 points and the share of services sector increased by 1.1 points.
Labor force increased by 596 thousand persons in the same period of the previous year, compared to the same period of the previous year, to 32 million 796 thousand persons, and labor force participation rate increased by 0.3 points to 54%. According to the comparisons made for the same periods; the labor force participation rate of men increased by 0,3 percentage points to 73,8%, while it increased by 0,4 percentage points to 34,7% in females.
In July 2018, the ratio of employees without any social security institutions decreased by 0.9 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year and realized as 34.3%. The percentage of unregistered workers in the non-agricultural sector was 22.2%, unchanged compared to the same period of the previous year.
