Head of Ankara Chamber of Butchers, Fazlı Yalçındağ, rebelled against the scandal and demanded an explanation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
The presence of the phrase "Does not contain pork and fat" for the veal offered for sale by a brand as "beef bacon" at CarrefourSa revealed the tragicomic situation.
The meat that is prepared by going through the smoking process in order to consume the meat in a longer period of time is called smoked meat.
The cured meat obtained from the back, belly or breast of a pig is called bacon.
The fact that the brand named FUMECI offers veal meat as BEEF BACON reveals the ignorance experienced.
ANKARA CHAMBER OF BUTCHERS: “WE WAITING FOR AN EXPLANATION FROM THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE”
President of Ankara Chamber of Butchers, Fazlı Yalçındağ, asked for an explanation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry regarding the beef that the brand named FUMECI offered for sale using the name of bacon.
Yalçındağ, who called on the citizens to be careful about the product they saw in the meat section of a CarrefourSa store, noted that his reaction was not related to the content in his evaluation to the Milli Gazete.
"What's the point of the veal you sell, sir, are you using the name of the pork?" Yalçındağ asked.
He stated that it was not possible for them to accept that certain sensitivities of the society were ignored due to their admiration for foreigners.
THEY BROUGHT OUR TRADITIONAL PRODUCT JOIN WITH PIGS
Yalçındağ stated that the use of the name Smoked, which is a traditional product of ours, together with the name of pork reveals how social values have been eroded.
"Our advice to friends who offer this meat for sale is that they do not need to resort to such a way just because it will look cute to a few tourists. There are many names that suit us, they can create a brand through these names," he added.
Expressing that they expect an explanation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on this matter, Yalçındağ said, "I am waiting for an explanation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry about this product, which is produced and sold under the name of calf and pig."
