Veterinarians came together against violence in Ankara, Ulus Square. Violence cases were brought to the agenda in the action organized by the Turkish Veterinary Medical Association with the participation of 56 Regional and Provincial Chambers of Veterinarians.
A call was made to include veterinarians in the law on violence in health, which is expected to be enacted after the feast.
“WE HAVE WARNED RESPONSIBLES TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS”
Speaking in the press statement, Ali Eroğlu, Chairman of the Central Council of the Turkish Veterinary Medical Association, stated that veterinarians were exposed to attacks while performing their duties.
"After each heinous event, we were saying that the attacks would cost lives if no action was taken, through various press statements and our applications to the official authorities. We used to say that we were afraid that this violence would continue to increase, but now we are in a different mood of saying 'we told you'. Unfortunately, the tragic event in Sorgun cost us a life. Our colleague was martyred in the line of duty. Our pain is big. The word is over, The Fear has become. Veterinarian Volkan Lale lost his life in an attack carried out by a traitor with a knife while he was on duty," he said.
“VETERINARIANS ARE ALSO HEALTH WORKERS”
Stating that the attacks on veterinarians are likely to continue, Eroğlu pointed out that the only solution is a legal regulation.
"As long as veterinarians are out of the scope of the law on violence in health, these events will continue to increase. It will neither be the first nor the last. If measures are taken before the remedies are exhausted, lives will not be lost. Violence will lead to violence unless severe sanctions are applied in this regard. Based on the fact that veterinarians are also health workers, as in the whole world, actual service increase, retirement special service compensation, etc. We want to be given what we are entitled to in the regulations," he added.
