Ali Eroğlu, President of the Turkish Veterinary Medical Association (TVHB), met with journalists at the iftar program.
Stating that veterinary medicine is a profession that also serves human health, Eroğlu explained that veterinarians undertake important tasks in research and development of coronavirus vaccines.
Reminding that TURKOVAC vaccine was developed by Veterinarian Medicine Prof. Dr. Aykut Özdarendeli, Eroğlu noted that during the pandemic, veterinarians as well as healthcare professionals were working candidly both in the field and in the laboratories.
Eroğlu pointed out that although veterinarians are in the health care class, they cannot benefit from the rights of health professionals in practice.
Stating that veterinarians can face zoonotic diseases transmitted from animals to humans, Eroğlu continued as follows:
"When I asked my veterinarian friends, 'Is there anyone living with Brucella?', 8-10 people out of 40 raised their hands. This is an occupational disease. Because of this reason our colleagues were getting actual service hike. It was abolished by the Constitutional Court in 2008 for some reasons. This needs to be resolved."
