The wages of 26,000 social service workers working in workplaces affiliated to the Ministry of Family and Social Services remained below the new minimum wage determined as 4,253 Turkish Liras (TL) for 2022. ‘Öz Sağlık-İş’, the authorized union for the wages of social service workers, who were affected by the rising inflation and the new minimum wage figure, revised their collective agreement demands.
In the written statement made by the Chairman of the ‘Öz Sağlık-İş’ Union, Devlet Sert, the grievances of the social workers were pointed out. Sert said that new demands have been submitted to the Turkish Union of Public Heavy Industry and Services Sector Employers (TÜHİS), which sits at the collective bargaining table on behalf of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, and that the demands of the union will be re-evaluated with a study to be carried out between TÜHİS and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
"END VICTIMIZATION"
Reminding that the negotiations on the collective bargaining agreement continue at the Ministry of Family and Social Services, Sert said, “In the face of this newly developing situation as a union, we revised our demands that we presented to the table on behalf of the service workers. In terms of both administrative, social and financial rights, we reflect our struggle to the negotiation table with all our strength to ensure that social workers can reach wages and rights worthy of human dignity. We believe that our social workers who work far from their families for days and weeks with quarantine seizures by putting their lives in their teeth during the pandemic period will not be victimized.”
