Ferhat Salman, President of the Internship Insurance Victims Association (SSM), published a written statement regarding more than 1,5 million citizens who were victims of the insurance practice applied in compulsory internship practices.
In the statement, it was pointed out that the insurance victims demanded the right to borrow in order for their internship insurance to be counted towards retirement.
In his statement, Salman stated that the insurances made while actively working in the business field during the compulsory internship periods applied in apprenticeship schools, vocational high schools and universities are only covered by health insurance, emphasizing that the insurance that started during the compulsory internship period has no effect on retirement, although it is considered a start in insurance, “In Electronic State and My Working Life applications, our internships appear as insurance entry, that is, the first date of employment, but unfortunately, it is not considered as a start to long-term insurance,” he said.
SOME OCCUPATIONAL GROUPS ARE GIVEN THE RIGHT TO BORROW
Pointing out that there is a right to borrow money for internship periods in some occupational groups, “With the new law, the duration of doctoral education or medical specialization education without being insured, the normal internship periods of those who do their law internship without being insured, and the periods spent in honorary assistantships of physicians will be considered as a start to long-term insurance. Despite this, the fact that this right is not extended to the general public causes a great deal of grievance in the rest of the society,” Salman added.
Pointing out that indebting the victims of internship insurance, whose number has reached 1,5 million people, will benefit both the victims and the public in many areas, Salman said, "If the right to borrow money is granted, the victims who cannot retire due to internship insurance will gain the right to get pension, while the borrowing will be beneficial. With the amounts to be paid to the public as a result, approximately over 40 billion revenues can be obtained for the Treasury. Thus, with internship borrowing, this problem is solved without putting any burden on the budget.”
