Sağlık-Sen Union has announced the Violence in Health Report for July. According to the report, there were 30 cases of violence in July. In the incidents carried out by 115 attackers, 60 health workers became victims. In the report, it was noted that the impunity decisions made by the judicial authorities escalated the violence.

Violence continues to roam the hospital corridors. Revealing the extent of violence with its monthly 'Violence in Health Report' published every month, Sağlık-Sen Union also shared the figures for July with the public.

30 VIOLENCE EVENTS HAVE OCCURRED

According to the report for the month of July, in 30 incidents of violence during the month; While 20 doctors, 14 security guards, 10 nurses, 7 emergency medical technicians, 1 midwife and 8 other health workers were victims, 1 doctor died. It was recorded that 27 of the violent incidents took place in hospitals and 3 in the field.

CRIMINAL SANCTIONS ARE INSUFFICIENT

In the report, which also provides information about the judicial proceedings applied for cases of violence, the following statements are included: “No action was taken against 81 of the 115 attackers. The 19 attackers who were taken into custody were released. While investigations were launched against 5 attackers, 9 attackers were arrested. The attacker, who caused the death of Doctor Ekrem Karakaya, committed suicide. Although violence in health has become one of the catalog crimes with the law enacted in May, the decisions made by the judicial authorities show that the law is not implemented effectively.

HEALTH WORKERS SEEK JUSTICE IN SOCIAL MEDIA

Making an evaluation about the report they prepared, Sağlık-Sen Union Chairman Semih Durmuş noted that the decisions of impunity for violence disappointed the health workers. Durmuş said, “Unfortunately, healthcare professionals who react to the release of the attackers seek justice on social media. Judicial authorities issue an arrest warrant for the attacker, who was released after the pressure on social media. We cannot accept this. A more effective law is imperative that judges, prosecutors and law enforcement officers show the necessary sensitivity. The perpetrator should not get away with it. As Saglik-Sen Union, we are determined to show our struggle against violence in health in the future as well.”
