Pointing out that the employees are crushed under the tax burden, the Chairman of the Öz Sağlık-İş Union, Devlet Sert, pointed out that the high tax brackets stifle the employees and said, “Currently, 40 percent of wages in our country go to deductions such as income tax and insurance premiums. The wages of wage earners at the beginning of the year and the wages they received at the end of the year decreased by a quarter as a result of high tax brackets. This cut in the wages of an average worker has increased to almost 2,000 Turkish Liras (TL) at the end of the year.”

Stating that it is important to fix the tax brackets against the heavy tax burden placed on the employees as the Confederation, Sert said, “We find the proposal to fix the tax brackets of our Confederation at 10 percent very valuable and feasible. Relief of the wage earner from the heavy tax burden, especially in the face of the deepening economic crisis, is an application that make breathe possible.”

Pointing out that health and social service workers experience the problems experienced by all employees with tax cuts, Sert stated that health workers are under more burden with the pandemic, and said, “Covid-19, which has been on our agenda for about 3 years and has changed and intensified the way we work, in the pandemic, health and social service workers have come under a great burden. They worked for days, weeks, months in some of our institutions without going home. They took this burden without benefiting from the additional payment made to the civil servants, but they did their duty with a national consciousness. At the point reached today, they are crushed under heavy tax brackets like all wage earners. Their purchasing power has dropped considerably.”
