The data announced by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security once again showed how weak the unionization in our country is. According to the data, 2,189,645 out of 15,294,362 workers, or 14,32 percent, are unionized.
The "Communiqué on January 2022 Statistics on the Number of Workers in Business Lines and the Number of Members of Unions in accordance with the Trade Unions and Collective Bargaining Agreement Law No. 6356" prepared by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security was published in the Official Gazette.
Accordingly, 2,189,645 out of 15,294,362 workers in Turkey, or 14,32 percent, are union members. These figures given by the Ministry once again revealed how weak unionization is in Turkey.
‘TÜRK-İŞ’ IS AT THE TOP OF THE LIST WITH 1 MILLION MEMBERS
In the communiqué published, the number of members of the confederations was also shared. Accordingly, ‘Türk-İş’ Labour Union is the confederation with the highest number of members with 1,213,439 members, followed by ‘Hak-İş’ Labour Union with 727,187 members and followed by ‘DİSK’ Labour Union with 212,593 members. While 29,855 workers were members of independent unions, 4,337 workers were unionized under ‘Ülkem-İş’ Labour Union, 1,177 workers were unionized under ‘Anadolu-İş’ Labour Union, 997 workers were unionized under ‘Tüm-İş’ Labour Union, and 220 workers were again under the umbrella of ‘MİSK’ confederations.
‘HIZMET-IŞ’ IS THE LARGEST WORKERS' SYNDICATE
The syndicate with the highest number of members was ‘Hizmet-İş’. While ‘Hizmet-İş’ ranked first with 243,643 members, it was followed by ‘Türk Metal’ with 224,823 members and ‘Öz Sağlık-İş’ with 184,845 members.
