Recai Kutan, Chairman of the Center for Economic and Social Research (ESAM), made a written statement regarding the process that took place in Tunisia after the parliament was suspended by the President. In the statement that it was stated that what was done was like a coup, Kutan also called for calm to all parties.
In Kutan's statement, "The announcement by the President of Tunisia that he suspended the Tunisian Assembly by taking the army with him is a blow to the national will. The dismissal of the prime minister, which means the suspension of the will of the Tunisian people, and the suspension of the parliament's activities cannot be justified for any reason. The history of the region is full of experiences where such interventions have paid a much heavier price politically, economically and socially. This intervention will irreparably damage the efforts of all Tunisians to build a democratic common ground," it was stated.
"WE INVITE ALL PARTIES TO TAKE THE NECESSARY STEPS"
"As Union of Muslim Communities and ESAM, we declare that we are against this illegitimate intervention. We invite all parties in Tunisia to take the necessary steps to ensure a structure in which legitimacy will be restored. We support the struggle to establish a democratic common ground in Tunisia based on national will and expect a return to normal conditions as soon as possible. We announce that we stand by Tunisia and our Tunisian brothers in this struggle, which we consider very important for the peace and tranquility of all the peoples of the region," Kutan said.
