Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK) members gathered at Ata Park in Artvin and walked to Halit Paşa Junction with the slogan "We want justice in income, justice in taxes."
DİSK Chairman Arzu Çerkezoğlu, in her statement after the march, said that as DİSK, they have been waging a struggle for justice in income and taxes, and a decent wage, starting from workplaces and extending to the squares.
Arguing that there should be a system where everyone pays taxes according to their ability, Çerkezoğlu stated that they are working for a fair tax system where less tax is collected from those who earn less and more taxes are collected from those who earn more.
Çerkezoğlu stated that the main opposition party brought the 5-article law proposal for a fair tax system prepared by DİSK to the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and that they are following the process.
“THE LOWEST RETIREMENT PENSION SHOULD BE AS MUCH AS THE MINIMUM WAGE”
Stating that more than half of the workers in Turkey and 70 percent of those in the private sector work for minimum wage, Çerkezoğlu underlined that, as DİSK, they have been struggling for a decent minimum wage for years.
Çerkezoğlu also stated that, as DİSK, they will not give a figure regarding the minimum wage this year.
"We do not want to chase numbers regarding the minimum wage, we want a minimum wage that can be lived in humanely. We say that the minimum wage should be repeated four times a year until inflation drops to single digits," Çerkezoğlu added.
DİSK Chairman Çerkezoğlu added that the lowest pension should be increased to at least the minimum wage level.
