Mark Esper, nominated by US President Donald Trump as defense minister, said US troops will remain in Syria.
"The residual forces of the US military will remain in northeastern Syria for the time being as part of a multinational force operating against Daesh," Esper told the US Senate.
Esper, "For the safety of the operation, I will not discuss the number of soldiers and deadlines," he said.
