According to the unofficial results of the general elections, 4 Turkish candidates from Western Thrace were entitled to enter the Greek parliament.

Greek President Katerina Sakelaropulu has given the task of forming the government to the Greek Prime Minister and leader of the New Democracy Party, the winner of yesterday's general elections, Kiryakos Mitsotakis.

Sakelaropulu gave Prime Minister Mitsotakis the task of forming a government in accordance with the second paragraph of Article 37 of the Constitution, which he accepted in his office.

Mitsotakis stated that the message from the ballot box was clear.

"I think the intention to form a government from the current parliament is not actually possible," Mitsotakis said.

Mitsotakis stated that he thinks it is impossible to form a coalition government.

"I intend to hand over the task of forming a government to you this evening so that if my prediction of the impossibility of forming a government turns out to be true, we can go to the polls as quickly as possible, possibly on 25 June," Mitsotakis added.

According to the Ministry of Interior data, in the elections where 97.53 percent of the votes were counted, Özgür Ferhat from the Radical Left Alliance (SYRIZA) in Rhodope, İlhan Ahmet, who was expelled from the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board from the PASOK Party last year, and Hüseyin Zeybek from SYRIZA in Xanthi, and Burhan Baran from the PASOK Party was elected as a deputy.

Ferhat, whose main profession is dentistry in Komotini, entered the Greek parliament for the first time with a record 12,146 votes.

Zeybek, Baran and Ahmet had entered the Greek parliament as deputies in the previous elections.

Ferhat, in his speech after the announcement of the results, stated that they will work with a sense of responsibility for the people of the region.

Ferhat said that the victory they won in the Rhodope province did not only have a symbolic meaning.

"In these elections, where the free will of our people is reflected, we have taken the first place with the support of our minority. Thank you for the support they have shown to my party and myself, and we are especially confident that we will represent our minority in the best possible way," Ferhat said.

Baran also said that the election results were not a surprise to him and stated that they evaluated the campaign period very well.

Baran pointed out that 2 Turkish deputies were re-elected in Xanthi,

"It was very good for our Xanthi. We managed to get two deputies again. This is our pride," Baran said.

Zeybek, on the other hand, emphasized that SYRIZA did not achieve a desired result throughout the country.

"But as we expected in our own province, our minority trusted us again. Good luck to our minority. As we have done so far, we will continue to advocate for our minority in parliament," Zeybek said.

While New Democracy was the first party in 58 of the 59 constituencies across the country, SYRIZA finished ahead in the election race only in the Rhodope region, which also includes Komotini.
