Felicity (Saadet) Party Konya Deputy Abdulkadir Karaduman brought the grievances of the farmers engaged in rice farming in Çorum Osmancık to the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Karaduman submitted a written parliamentary question to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli to answer.
Reminding in his motion that the producers in Osmancık, Çorum, one of the important centers of paddy agriculture, have suffered grievances, Karaduman said, "Especially in the recent period, with the price increases in basic expense items such as diesel fuel, fertilizer, electricity, pesticides, it has become unable to meet its production costs. It is extremely important that new support packages are announced in order to increase paddy production, protect and develop the Osmancık brand, and that the input costs of the agricultural crops office are taken into account while determining the product base purchase price."
HOW MANY REGISTERED FARMERS ARE THERE?
Karaduman asked the following questions, asking Minister Pakdemirli to answer:
* As of today, what is the number of registered farmers producing paddy in Çorum Osmancık? What was that number last year?
* How many thousand tons was the paddy production in Osmancık in 2019 and 2020? What is the total amount of product expected to be produced in paddy for 2021?
* What studies does your ministry carry out in order to protect and develop the Osmancık brand? Do you plan to announce any new support package for paddy producers?
* What criteria does the Soil Products Office take into account when determining the base price for product purchases? What activities does your ministry carry out to prevent hoarding and black market?
