The announcement of the opening of schools on August 31 raises concerns in Turkey. In the light of the recommendations of the Scientific Committee, measures related to the schools in the guide prepared by the Ministry of Health also brought the question marks. It was a matter of curiosity how the recommendation that “staff and students should be planned in a way that at least 4 square meters per person should be made” in schools is very crowded in our country.
The measures to be taken in schools were also included in the Kovid-19 Outbreak Management and Working Guide published by the Ministry of Health. some of the measures recommended in the guidelines prepared by the Scientific Committee in the light of the lack of appropriate capacity class in Turkey, he noted. In the published guide, while warning that “staff and students should be planned so that at least 4 square meters per person should be planned in schools”, only 12 to 14 students can stay in classes ranging from 48 to 56 square meters. It is seen that the measure decision taken in our country, where the class sizes are very crowded, does not correspond to the facts.
THERE WILL BE ONLY 14 STUDENTS IN THE CLASS!
In Covid-19 Outbreak Management and Work Guide published by the Ministry of Health, measures to be taken in schools were also included. some of the measures recommended in the guidelines prepared by the Scientific Committee in the light of the lack of appropriate capacity class in Turkey, he noted. In the published guide, while warning that “staff and students should be planned so that at least 4 square meters per person should be planned in schools”, only 12 to 14 students will be able to stay in classes ranging from 48 to 56 square meters. HOW IT WILL BE IMPLEMENTED?
The Science Committee affiliated to the Ministry of Health has also identified measures for schools to be opened on 31 August as part of the Covid-19 Outbreak Management and Study Guide. There are important warnings and recommendations in the 20-page section that concerns schools. However, some measures of Turkey's decision to not comply with the school and classroom building was raised questions in his head. In particular, the warning that “staff and students should be planned in a way that at least 4 square meters per person should be made in schools” is a matter of curiosity how to apply it in our crowded schools.
"HOW WILL IT BE POSSIBLE IN THE CURRENT SITUATION?"
Making an assessment of the decisions and measures taken by the Science Committee about schools, Türk-Eğitim Sen Chairman Talip Geylan said, “We appreciate the measures our institutions take. However, it is important to emphasize the applicability of some issues. For example, in the said guide; It is said, “Personnel and student planning should be made in a way that at least 4 square meters per person in schools”. According to (National Education Ministry's (MEB) type projects, our classes are 48 square meters in kindergarten/primary schools and 56 square meters in secondary schools/high schools. Therefore, there should be 12 students in our kindergarten/primary schools and 14 students in our secondary/high schools. How would this be possible in the current situation where class sizes are too crowded?” Geylan asked.
Geylan also said, “A significant number of schools in our provinces and regions where the population is dense are already providing dual education. We were able to adjust the social distance in the classroom; So how can we control this in the corridors, canteens, and services?”
