A lot of information and documents have been published so far that the invading China has committed crimes against humanity in East Turkestan. In fact, many Uyghur Turks expressed the torture they were subjected to under the so-called ‘education camp’ of invading China on social platforms. Finally, a 48-page report was published by the United Nations (UN) against the human rights violations committed by China in East Turkestan. However, despite all the official information and documents that have been published, the United Nations still has not imposed any sanctions on invading China. Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, made evaluations on the long-awaited East Turkestan report.

“CLEARLY REVEALS THE DIMENSIONS AND GRAVITY OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS”

Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, made a statement regarding the report that evaluated the human rights violations in East Turkestan, “This 48-page report covers the human rights violations that took place in Xinjiang, makes clear the extent and gravity of its violations. Amnesty International had previously concluded that these violations fell within the scope of crimes against humanity. There is no doubt that the Chinese government is trying hard to pressure the UN to cover it up. The inexcusable delay in the publication of this report cast a shadow on the record of the United Nations Supreme Council for Human Rights. However, this should not diminish the importance of the report. The report reflects reports from Amnesty International and other trusted organizations that document patterns of torture and other forms of ill-treatment, as well as sexual and violent incidents,” Callamard said.

“CALL THE CHINA GOVERNMENT TO ACCOUNT ABOUT CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY IT COMMITTED”

Underlining the need for China to be held accountable for its crimes against humanity, “As its findings have been made public, the time has come for the UN Human Rights Council to commit to establish an independent international mechanism for investigating crimes against international law and other serious human rights violations in Xinjiang. All member states have a moral obligation to consult the report and support proposals to establish an investigative mechanism; otherwise, they will be on the wrong side of history. The Chinese government's crimes against humanity must be held accountable. This includes the identification and eventual prosecution of those deemed to be responsible,” Callamard added.
