"Şeker-İş" Union held a press release for the workers who were dismissed by the Alp Turkey Factory management on the grounds that they wanted to work with a union.
In the press statement made by "Şeker-İş" Union, Alp Turkey employers were called for “return the dismissed workers”.
Drawing attention to Article 51 of the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey and Article 25 of the Law on Trade Unions and Collective Agreements, the union warned that being a union member is a clear right for the worker and that the employment contract cannot be terminated because he/she is a union member.
“4 WORKERS ARE UNLAWFULLY FIRED”
In the press release, which stated that being a union member is a constitutional right, "Despite making the necessary applications to the authorities, 4 of our colleagues were unlawfully dismissed by the factory management. However, in Article 51 of the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey, it is a clearly recognized right for workers to join a union in order to improve their economic and social conditions. Again, it is emphasized in Article 25 of the Trade Unions and Collective Agreements Law, which was prepared based on the constitutional right, that the employment contract of the worker cannot be terminated because he is a union member. Turkish Penal Code decrees that pressures on the right to be a union member are punished with imprisonment from 6 months to 3 years," it was said.
“WORKERS ARE DISCHARGED BECAUSE THEY ARE UNIONIZED”
Indicating that the workers are working in unhealthy conditions, the union continued in its statement as follows:
"Despite all constitutional rights, workers are dismissed because they are unionized. Alp Turkey Factory, which is a representative of this understanding that turns a deaf ear to the humane and democratic demands of the workers, has imposed long working hours on its workers for years, but never paid overtime wages. It sentenced its employees to low wages. Alp Turkey workers, which were victimized by work accidents and harsh working conditions, were dismissed without justification when they used their democratic rights and joined a union."
