Öz İplik İş Union President Rafi Ay met with journalists. Stating that the backs of the workers are bent due to the current economic conditions, Ay said, “The cost of living due to inflation reduces our bread. As the labor sector, we cannot remain silent in this process. Fighting inflation with a social consensus as soon as possible is one of our top priorities.”
Öz İplik İş Union President Rafi Ay met with members of the press at their union's “July 24 Journalists and Press Festival Traditional Dinner”. Ay made evaluations about the prominent topics of working life in the program. Stating that our country is going through a heavy economic process, Ay added, “The purchasing power of our people is rapidly decreasing. Once again, the scourge of inflation has caught up with us. Inflation mostly affects wage earners and narrow incomes. We are people who live by our labor. We charge a fee for this. However, the life that has arisen due to inflation, its cost makes our bread smaller. As the labor sector, we cannot remain silent in this process. Fighting inflation with a social consensus as soon as possible is one of our top priorities.”
“OBSTACLES TO ORGANIZATION MUST BE REMOVED ASAP”
Expressing that the unregistered employment of workers for wages below the hunger limit is the most important problem of working life, Ay noted that this situation is the prevention of unionization and said, “It is due to the absence of a unionized working life. The first step to be taken to overcome the economic and social problems of our country is to remove the obstacles in front of organization.” Condemning the violence perpetrated against their union in his speech, Ay added: “An ignorant bully in a workplace where we are organized as Öz İplik İş Union in Karabük, put on the field by a rival union, tricked one of our members and made him leave his house by taking advantage of his good intentions on the night of July 17, battered and threatened this friend of ours, who has no faults. Of course, the incident was brought to the court and we will do our best to ensure that this bullying does not go unpunished. However, those who lost the trade union struggle on the field have now started to turn to bullying. The working people once again saw the true face of these tyrants.”
