President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi on Sunday hailed Turkish aid to his war-torn country.

Speaking during a meeting with Turkish Ambassador Levent Eler, Hadi praised "Turkey's support for Yemen and the country's constitutional legitimacy in international arenas", according to the official Saba news agency.

The president also paid tribute to "Turkish aid to ease the difficult humanitarian situation" in Yemen, going on to underline the depth of relations between the two countries.

The Turkish envoy, for his part, said his meeting with the Yemeni president aimed to underline his country's support for Yemen.

Impoverished Yemen has been dogged by violence since 2014, when Shia Houthi rebels overran much of the country, including capital Sanaa.

The conflict escalated in 2015 when Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies launched a wide-ranging campaign aimed at rolling back Houthi gains.

The ongoing violence has devastated public infrastructure, including water and sanitation systems, prompting the UN to describe the situation in Yemen as "one of the worst humanitarian disasters in modern times".
