Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), announced the labor force statistics for June.
Accordingly, the number of unemployed persons aged 15 and over increased by 2 thousand in June compared to the previous month and reached 3 million 337 thousand people. Unemployment rate, on the other hand, increased by 0.1 percentage points to 9.6 percent.
While the unemployment rate was 7.8 percent for men, it was estimated to be 13.2 percent for women.
In June, the unemployment rate among the young population covering the 15-24 age group was 18.6 percent with an increase of 1.2 percentage points compared to the previous month.
In this age group, it was predicted that the unemployment rate was 15.4 percent for men and 24.2 percent for women.
THE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES DECREASED
Seasonally adjusted, the number of employed persons decreased by 363 thousand in June compared to the previous month and regressed to 31 million 291 thousand persons, while the employment rate decreased by 0.6 points to 47.8 percent.
While this rate was 65.2 percent for men, it was 30.8 percent for women.
The seasonally adjusted workforce decreased by 359 thousand on a monthly basis and became 34 million 629 thousand people, while the labor force participation rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points to 52.9 percent.
While the labor force participation rate was 70.7 percent for men, it was estimated to be 35.5 percent for women.
Unemployment rate among the young population between the ages of 15-24 increased by 1.2 percentage points compared to the previous month and became 18.6 percent in June.
The unemployment rate in this age group was calculated as 15.4 percent for men and 24.2 percent for women.
ATTRACTIVE LABOR RATE 24.2 PERCENT
The average weekly actual working hours, adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, of those employed during the reference period increased by 0.7 hours compared to the previous month and became 44.6 hours.
The rate of idle labor force, which consists of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and unemployed, became 24.2 percent in June with an increase of 1.7 percentage points compared to the previous month.
While the combined rate of time-related underemployment and the unemployed was 16.6 percent, the combined rate of the unemployed and potential workforce was estimated at 17.9 percent.
