Turkish Statistical Institute had announced youth unemployment for the same age group as 23.3 per cent in the May 2019 report on Labour Force Statistics.
Over one million unemployed persons hold a university degree or higher.
According to the İŞKUR data, over one million people applied for unemployment benefits between January and June 2019, while 531,000 were deemed eligible.
Compared to the month of July in 2018, the total number of registered unemployed persons increased by 51.2 per cent from 2,670,970 to 4,039,541. The all-time record had been broken in June 2019, with 4,417,814 persons.
During July, a total of 158,060 persons were placed in a job. The most applicants were placed as sales representative, tourism worker and security guard in this order, which shows that the 34.1 per cent increase in job placement compared to the previous month is in part due to seasonal tourism work.
There were 20.8 per cent fewer job openings listed in July 2019 compared to the same month in 2018, with job openings for 191,556 persons. The decrease in job listings are indicative of the shrinkage in employment.
