Yusuf Yazgan, Chairman of the Bureau Memur-Sen Union, which is affiliated with Memur-Sen Confederation, said, “We find it important to increase the minimum wage to 8,506 TL. We want the increase criteria applied here to be applied to public servants as well. In addition, we demand an increase in the proportional increase or the base salary for public servants, in addition to the proportional increase.”

Buro Memur-Sen Union Chairman Yusuf Yazgan, who is affiliated to the Civil Servants Confederations Union (Memur-Sen), demanded that the minimum wage increase for the workers be applied to civil servants as well. Following the minimum wage announced by President Erdogan, eyes were turned to the increase in civil servant salaries. Yusuf Yazgan, Chairman of the Bureau Memur-Sen affiliated to Memur-Sen Confederation, made important statements on the subject. Yazgan stated that they are authorized in 8 important ministries and 43 institutions in the service branch of their unions and said, “We find it important to increase the minimum wage to 8,506 TL. We want the increase criteria applied here to be applied to public servants as well. Moreover, in addition to the proportional increase for public servants, we demand an additional equal in the base salary or increase in the base salary. For this reason, based on the 54,5 percent increase in the minimum wage, the equal increase should be made by adding the percentage increase to the increase, and the purchasing power of public servants should be increased.”

RAISE MADE FOR CIVIL SERVANTS IS LOWER THAN THE MINIMUM WAGE PROPORTIONALLY

In the statement made, the increase rates of the minimum wage and civil servant salaries between 2010 and 2022 were also shared. According to the table, while the minimum wage was increased by 854 percent in nominal terms over the 12-year period, it was seen that there was a proportional increase of 598 percent in the lowest civil servant salary (Servant). Yazgan said, “For the increase in civil servant salaries in January 2023, it should be taken base an equal increase + 54,5 increase that is made for minimum wage by adding it to percentage increase the loss in civil servants’ salaries should not be allowed to widen.”
