As evaluating Erdogan’s statement of “We’ve betrayed Istanbul” Turkish Grand National Assembly speaker and the mayoral candidate for Istanbul Binali Yıldırım, says that “It is a warning, staggering and serious self-criticism”.
Exactly, it is a quite warning mention that Erdogan said “We’ve betrayed Istanbul”.
At the same time, it is a quite “staggering” sentence.
And then undoubtedly, it could be acceptable as “a serious self-criticism”.
We have no objection to any of these.
We can even sign below these. Our worry is about what they did after this statement that has a warning, staggering and serious self-criticism qualification! Yes, the President Erdogan stated the actual station with a kind of that serious self-criticism.
Well, what did the other competents do after this statement?
Which steps were taken to recover this betrayal to Istanbul?
To tell the truth, we have never heard of a step on this path. In other words, we have not witnessed such a step.
Neither some buildings that ruin the scenery of Istanbul fixed nor the buildings of “i don’t know how many-floored skyscraper” were decelerated.
So this historical reality that was expressed by the President Erdogan only remained in being expressed.
For this reason; our worries about “the betrayals to Istanbul will be continued or not” is going on. Yes, a “warning, staggering and serious self-criticism” statement is being expressed but there isn’t a persuading guarantee that the same mistake is never going to be repeaten for public opinion.
If one of the ruling party candidate is elected to be the mayor of Istanbul, we are afraid that we may have to hear similar statements in the coming period. How could an excuse like “Sir, the one that we had chosen before were not good but these are definitely better” be acceptable?
Weren’t the ones who is being said now they’ve betrayed, being praised when they were elected and weren’t they being said that they are the best? We guess, the ruling party AKP is getting drowned in dilemmas that it created by its own.
Actually, the expression “We’ve betrayed Istanbul” on prefering horizontal architecture instead of vertical architecture could include to whole country and could be said “We’ve betrayed Turkey” as a more warning, staggering and a more serious self-criticism.
