AKP Group Deputy Chairperson Özlem Zengin, opposing the words of the Hagia Sophia Mosque Imam, Mehmet Boynukalın, about the murders of women, "these statements increase the burden of politics. Politics is very hard work! That's why I think everyone should do their own thing," she said.
It is true, politics is very hard work!
And most people find it difficult to handle this burden.
More precisely, they cannot.
They are molded under it and crushed.
First, let's take a look at what our hodja, Mehmet Boynukalın, the chief-imam of the Hagia Sophia Mosque, said!
Boynukalın said:
"The emphasis on murder of women is the sloganic media propaganda that tries to turn women against men!"
AKP Group Deputy Chairperson Özlem Zengin could not understand why such a statement was spoiled. So in this statement, we had a hard time finding a direction to say, "Everybody should take care of their own business."
Moreover, our teacher, Mehmet Boynukalın, the head of the Hagia Sophia Mosque, has not spoken on a subject that does not concern him.
As an imam, as a professor, he expressed his views on a subject that concerns all the people of the country.
Is it possible to see it as a “healthy politics” to oppose it, to criticize it and to try to direct people by saying “Everyone should do their job”?
At best, such statements may be a sign of staying under political work that weighs more than a "healthy politics"!
In our opinion, politicians should look for ways to make the most of these statements instead of saying "Everyone should do their own thing" in the face of statements that contradict their views.
The approach of “let the imam be just an imam” is nothing more than assuming that his lofty duty is a prayer officer. However, imams have very important duties other than “leading prayers”.
We understand that the imams are fully involved in social events and the opposition of social democrats or liberals to their speech as required by those events.
Because they are strangers to the subject.
However, we cannot assume that a name such as AKP Group Deputy Chairman Özlem Zengin tries to introduce the imam as the person who is only in charge of leading the prayers.
Because he is no stranger to this subject.
We worry that such sublime statements will eventually put the explanation holders into a burden of politics.
