A state land of four hundred and thirty acres on the coast of Yenierenköy, located in the Karpaz region of the TRNC, was leased to Turkish Cypriot businessman Asil Nadir for forty-nine years in order to build a marina called Port Barbaros. Asil Nadir later took businesswoman Sıdıka Atalay as a partner in his company. While a marina and tourism facility called Port Barbaros was expected to be built in the region, Nadir received millions of dollars in air money before the construction started and transferred the area to British citizen Jewish businessman David Lewis, who was engaged in London-based activities. Lewis, who is a member of the World Zionist Congress and was deemed worthy of many awards by Israel for his services to the occupying Israeli regime, announced that he would invest ninety million dollars in 3 stages within 9-10 years. Lewis, which is expected to build a marina, two hotels, two holiday resorts, shopping centers and social facilities, did not make any other investments in the contract apart from the marina. Lewis made scandalous demands while imposing various conditions on the TRNC government to make the aforementioned investments. In this context, Lewis demanded that the lease term of the zone be increased to 99 years by a parliamentary decision, that the zone be given the status of a free zone, that the area in question be given the status of a port of entry to the country and that it be allowed to open a casino.
The Zionists, who acquired land in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) through companies and Israelis who are TRNC citizens, want to turn the region into a base under the pretext of investment.
In this context, the 430-decare land on the coast, leased from the TRNC state by the company of British and Israeli citizen David Lewis, who was awarded by the World Zionist Congress, draws attention years ago in Yenierenköy, located in the Karpaz region of the TRNC.
GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO TERMINATE THE CONTRACT
DavId Lewis' requests from the state to increase the lease term from 49 years to 99 years and to grant free zone status to the region were rejected after the harsh reactions in the press. The company, which reacted to this, did not build the hotel, holiday village and social facilities it promised by violating the lease agreement. In this case, the state must terminate the contract and take back the 430 decares of land leased to the company. The fact that Lewis' company does not comply with the terms of the contract and does not make the necessary investments paves the way for this step.
The giant investment of strategic importance made by the Israelis, who made various plans and played various games on Cyprus in line with their dreams of the promised land, on the New Erenköy coast in the Karpaz region, across Turkey's Southern coasts and the Iskenderun Gulf, raises suspicion. Sabahattin İsmail, the former adviser of TRNC Founding President Rauf Denktaş, whom we consulted about the investment, explained a sneaky game played in the Karpaz region of the TRNC in line with the strategic interests of the occupying Israeli regime.
"IT IS A SECURITY PROBLEM NOT ONLY FOR TRNC, BUT ALSO FOR TURKEY"
TRNC journalist, writer and historian Sabahattin İsmail says that the land outside the giant marina in Yenierenköy, located in the Karpaz region, should be taken back into the state because Lewis's company did not comply with the terms of the contract.
Noting that the state can terminate the violated contract and seize the region, İsmail said, "At least 350 decares of the 430 decares of land outside the marina must be reclaimed. Under the pretext of investment, the security of the TRNC lands and Turkey should not be put at risk by such strategic projects on the seashore. The situation in question is a security problem not only for the TRNC, but also for Turkey."
