The crisis between Russia and Ukraine has escalated. Last night, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of the Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine and sent troops to the region. After the decision of Donetsk and Luhansk, in which the pro-Russians unilaterally declared their independence, the main item on the world agenda was the Russia-Ukraine crisis. Prof. Dr. Sait Yılmaz told our newspaper about the developments and possible moves.
“MILITARY RESPONSE WILL BE GIVEN AFTER THE SANCTIONS”
Making evaluations about North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)’s perspective, Yılmaz said, "NATO has a game plan, it sets certain lines and decides what to do. At the moment, I think that developments are expected on the NATO side. Because NATO does not make hasty decisions. NATO and the United States are pursuing a policy in which Russia can be destroyed in the long run. Russia is given a life expectancy of 10 to 20 years. Now comes the sanctions. Military response after sanctions will be given. After the Ukraine crisis, something will be done to hurt Russia."
“PASSPORTATION SYSTEM WILL BE APPLIED”
“Russia is doing in Ukraine what it did in Georgia in the past. It will distribute Russian passports in the Donetsk and Luhanks regions. It will implement a passporting system and has a strategy of annexing the region with this system. Putin says that there is no nation called Ukraine, that Stalin created it. In other words, Putin sees himself as the old Russian tsars. In order for such a man to stay in power, he needs to get somewhere and bring Russian nationalism to the fore. Russia obtained the territory of a sovereign state. He did this by saying ‘to protect our interests’. They wanted Kars and Ardahan from us in 1945, they wanted a base in the straits," Prof. Dr. Sait Yılmaz added.
