Negotiations for the 7th Term Public Collective Agreement, which will determine the financial and social rights of approximately 4 million public servants and more than 2 million 300 thousand retired civil servants, continue for the 2024-2025 period.

While the eyes were turned to negotiations with the July inflation data announced yesterday, Ali Yalçın, Chairman of Confederatio of Public Workers Union (Memur-Sen), stated that the announced inflation figures were worrying and called for proposals to the public employer.

TURKSTAT announced July inflation as 9.49 percent and annual inflation as 47.83 percent.

Recently, the Central Bank updated its inflation forecast to 58 percent for 2023 and 33 percent for 2024.

Yalçın reminded that after the disclosure of the data, it was confirmed that Memur-Sen's offer of a raise was justified and reasonable.

"You can feel the difference between the photo that will appear only in the case of 'percentage hike + inflation difference' in July and the picture after the price hike. The importance of Memur-Sen's demand for 'purchasing power should be increased' is better understood with the disclosure of economic data," Yalçın said.

“INFLATION NUMBERS ARE WORRYING”

Pointing out that the regulation on the base salaries of public employees is a step towards relieving public officials, Yalçın noted that the announced inflation figures are worrying.

"Memur-Sen's 3-month and welfare share-based raise offer; It offers a solution to alleviate concerns, increase purchasing power, and end inflation pressure. For this reason, the public employer; Taking into account the predictions of Memur-Sen in his proposal to be submitted on 14 August, he should come with a proposal based on market realities, not inflation targets," Yalçın added.
