At the general assembly, Prof. Dr. Ali Muhyeddin Qaradaghi was elected as the chairman, and the new general secretary of the union became Ali Mohammad al-Sallabi.

At the general assembly, where Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez, the President of the Islamic Thought Institute from Turkey, was elected as the vice president, 31 new board of trustees members were also determined.

"THE UNION CAN LEAD ALL INITIATIVES FOR GAZA"

Writer Recep Songül, who is on the new board of trustees, stated that work on the union's move to its new location in Doha and new projects are continuing.

"In this general assembly, we especially wanted to draw attention to the Gaza issue. We also feel serious responsibility in these matters. The World Union of Muslim Scholars can be included in all delegations that may be formed regarding Gaza and can lead all initiatives that can raise awareness on this issue. The union has a message, a call and even work on this issue," Songül said.

"WORLD MUSLIM SCHOLARS UNION HAS TRANSFORMED INTO AN CORPORATE STRUCTURE"

Abdulvahap Ekinci, Turkey Representative of the World Union of Muslim Scholars, expressed his satisfaction with Qaradaghi's election as the new president.

"Ali Muhyeddin al-Qaradaghi, who has been the general secretary of the World Union of Muslim Scholars for years, was elected as the chairman. The fact that Qaradaghi Hodja was chosen as the only candidate in an election where anyone could be a candidate is actually an indication that there is unity among our scholars here," Ekinci said.

“THE PURPOSE OF THE ACTIVITIES IS TO FREE MOSJID-I AQSA”

Pointing out that the World Union of Muslim Scholars is a completely civilian initiative, Ekinci emphasized that important messages were given at the general assembly regarding Israel's attacks on Gaza.

"The barbarism and brutality that has been going on for months in Gaza is unacceptable neither humanly, religiously nor morally. In the general assembly, the duties of scholars as well as all humanity on this issue were underlined. It was stated that no one, especially Muslims, should remain silent on this issue. The general assembly focused on liberating Masjid al-Aqsa, our first qibla, as soon as possible and fulfilling the responsibilities required to end the oppression," Ekinci added.
