Ali Yalçın, Chairman of "Memur-Sen" labour union, evaluated President Erdoğan's announcement of the increase after the cabinet meeting.

Yalçın, in his statement on his social media account, noted that the increase in wages, which was increased by 2,5 percent to 30,5 percent, was insufficient.

Yalçın stated that with the inflation data of December, the purchasing power losses in the salaries and wages of civil servants have come to light since September.

"We wanted our offer of additional raise/additional payment to be on the fly so that it would be reflected equally to all civil servants. An additional hike was put on the agenda by the government, but only a 2,5 percent increase was made. It should not be forgotten that the 22,48 percent inflation difference that will be reflected in the salaries as of January is the result of the collective agreement provision, while the 5 percent increase in January is due to the collective agreement decision," Yalçın said.

THE RAISE MADE WILL NOT BE THE SOLUTION TO THE FIRE EXPERIENCED IN LIVELIHOOD

Emphasizing that the 30,5 percent increase will partially relieve the civil servants, but it will not be a solution to their financial difficulties, Yalçın used following words:

"A 30,5 percent increase takes some fire, but not enough to extinguish the embers. It is necessary to stop the fluctuation in the economy as soon as possible and to reduce the rising prices. We state once again that the best raise for fixed income earners is low inflation and market stability. As Memur-Sen; Our struggle to ensure justice in income distribution and increase the purchasing power of civil servants will continue with determination."
