In response to the criticism that the data it announced did not match the reality of the public, Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) calculated the consumer inflation rate as 2,98 percent and the producer inflation rate as 8,76 percent in May. Annual inflation was 73,50 percent in consumer prices and 132,16 percent in domestic producer prices. Food inflation has exceeded 90 percent. 
 
Inflation Research Group (ENAG) announced monthly inflation as 5,46 percent and annual inflation as 160,76 percent. Even economists participating in Anadolu Agency (AA)'s Financial Inflation Expectation Survey predicted that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) would increase by 5,49 percent in May and annual inflation would rise to 77,72 percent. 
 
According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 2,98 percent and the Domestic Producer Price Index (D-PPI) increased by 8,76 percent on a monthly basis in May. Annual inflation consumer was recorded as 73,50 percent in domestic producer prices and 132,16 percent in domestic producer prices. 
 
Considering the 12-month averages as of May, consumer prices increased by 39,33 percent and domestic producer prices increased by 80,38 percent. CPI increased by 35,64 percent in May compared to December of last year, and D-PPI increased by 51,43 percent. Economists participating in the AA Financial Inflation Expectation Survey predicted that the CPI would increase by 5,49 percent in May and annual inflation would rise to 77,72 percent. 
 

FOOD INFLATION EXCEEDS 90 PERCENT 

 
In terms of main expenditure groups, the main groups with the highest increase in May were alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 6,53 percent, entertainment and culture with 6,15 percent, and restaurants and hotels with 5,47 percent, respectively. The main groups that showed the least increase in May were education with 0,41 percent, communication with 1,49 percent and health with 1,61 percent. The lowest annual increase in CPI was communication with 19,81 percent, education with 27,48 percent, clothing and shoes with 29,8 percent, and health with 37,74 percent. The main groups with the highest increase compared to May 2021 were determined as transportation with 107,62 percent, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 91,63 percent, and household goods with 82,08 percent, respectively. 
 

ENAG'S INFLATION 160,76 PERCENT 

 
Inflation Research Group (ENAG) announced May inflation before TURKSTAT. According to ENAG's calculations, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 5,46 percent in May, while annual inflation was 160,76 percent.
 

RENT INCREASE RATE ANNOUNCED 

 
After the May inflation figures were announced, the June rent increase rate became clear. The rent increase rate, which was determined based on the twelve-month average of the CPI, was 39,33 percent for June. 
 

LAST YEAR, IT WAS 16,59 PERCENT IN MAY 

 
Inflation, which was 16,59 percent in May 2021, increased to 17,53 percent in June 2021, 18,95 percent in July 2021, 19,25 percent in August 2021, 19,58 percent in September 2021, 19,89 percent in October 2021 and 21,31 percent in November 2021. While inflation reached 36,08 percent in December, it increased to 48,69 percent in January 2022, 54,44 percent in February 2022, 61,14 percent in March 2022, and 69,97 percent in April. In May, it increased to 73,50 percent.
