More than 70,000 workers working in State Economic Enterprises (SEE) are waiting to meet their cadres. While hundreds of thousands of subcontracted workers were recruited by the Decree Law No. 696, which came into force 5 years ago, there are more than 70,000 subcontracted workers in public institutions, especially in SEEs.

Ergün Atalay, Chairman of the Türk-İş Confederation of Workers’ Trade Union, who made a statement on the subject, stated that they are continuing negotiations with the government for the solution of the problem. Stating that 70,000 workers who do the main work in public institutions and organizations and SEEs are subjected to great discrimination, Atalay said, “About 70,000 employees who do the main work in highways, agriculture, railways, energy, data processing, call centers and many other fields are still working as subcontracted. Even though it has been 5 years since the staff arrangement, no step has been taken yet.”

FULL YEAR EMPLOYMENT SHOULD BE APPLIED

Emphasizing that temporary and seasonal workers also experience great grievances, “There are also approximately 55,000 unemployed temporary workers who work for 10 months in a year and do not work for two months. These workers should be employed full time,” Atalay added.

EMPLOYERS WANT THE SALARY BACK FROM THE EMPLOYEE

Stating that there are problems with the new minimum wage rate due to some employers, Atalay said, “The employers deposit 4,253 Turkish Liras (TL) into the employee's account. But right after, they take 1,000 TL back from the hand. We conveyed this situation to the Minister, and they also stated that they had sent a circular with 81 provinces on the subject and that they would follow up the situation. Here I am calling out to the workers. If you encounter such a situation, report it to the provincial and district directorates of Social Security Institution (SSI).”
