Even though the government says, "We will not crush the citizens under the prices," the basic food supplies are getting higher and higher, and the fire in the kitchen is growing.

Exorbitant prices, which are the result of wrong economic policies, have been on the agenda of Turkey for about 5 years.

While the government's promises and promises against exorbitant prices are in mind, the inflation on the market shelves before the month of Ramadan continues to reduce the purchasing power.

As Milli Gazete, we have compared the prices in a certain period of time with the news of the inflation basket that we have been doing for years, and especially we have compiled the price hikes for basic consumption products.

In our news, where we reviewed the price hikes on the market shelves, we compared the prices of 13 basic consumption products in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

According to the calculations we made with the "best buy" products, a market basket that costs 343 TL in 2021 will fill up to 490 TL in 2022, and 738 TL in 2023.

While the promise of government officials that we will reduce inflation, which has been going on for years, is evident, the citizen, who was condemned to the cheapest products under minimum conditions, could not get rid of the exorbitant price cut this year.

CHICKEN MEAT IS NOW LUXURIOUS

The increase in oil prices, which was the champion of the hike in previous years, continued in 2023 as well.

5 liters of liquid sunflower oil, which was sold for 100 TL in 2021, increased to 145 TL in 2022 and increased to 147 TL with a discounted price in 2023.

The liter of olive oil, which was 34.50 TL per liter two years ago, increased to 57.50 TL last year, and this year it is based on 90 TL per liter.

The rise in chicken meat, which has become a luxury for the low-income, continued for 2 years.

Chicken meat, whose weight was 21 TL in 2021, increased almost twice to 39.50 TL the next year.

When we come to 2023, the weight of chicken meat has exceeded 44 TL.

THE INCREASE IN FLOUR, SUGAR AND MILK PRICES CONTINUES

The regular increase in sugar prices continues in 2023. 2 kilos of sugar, which was 37.50 TL per kilogram in 2021, increased to 42.75 TL in 2022, and now 2 kilograms of granulated sugar is sold for 47 TL.

While 5 kilos of flour, which has had its share of price hikes for years, were sold for 38 TL in 2021, it increased to 41 TL last year and now it has reached 57 TL.

The liter price of milk, which was 13.50 TL per liter 2 years ago, increased to 19.50 TL last year. Now, 1 liter of milk has reached 22.50 TL.

The consumption of yogurt, which increases every year due to milk prices, has now become a luxury.

In 2021, a 2.5-kilogram bucket of yogurt was sold for 18 TL, while in 2022 it was sold for 23.70 TL.

When we arrive in 2023, the price of a 3-kg bucket of yogurt has increased to 67 TL.

PULSES PRICES DOUBLED IN 3 YEARS

The prices of pulses, which are indispensable for the low-income table, have doubled in the last 3 years.

Red lentils, which were sold at 12.75 TL per kilo in 2021, increased to 18.10 TL last year and to 24 TL this year.

While 1 kilo of dry beans was sold for 13.75 TL in 2021, it increased to 16.50 TL in 2022, and now the same dried beans are sold for 35.50 TL per kilo.

Rice, whose weight was 15.25 TL in 2022, is now sold at 31 TL, with a double increase in 2023.

While the package of pasta, known for its cheapness, was sold for 3.75 TL in 2021, it is sold for 12.75 TL after two years.

TEA AND EGG PRICES, THE COST OF SAHUR TABLES INCREASED

With the arrival of Ramadan, the cost of sahur tables, where breakfast foods are generally consumed, has increased many times over the past three years.

While the 30-pack of eggs, whose price has been the subject of debate for years, was sold for 36 TL in 2021, it fell to 31 TL in 2022.

However, in the past 1 year, 30 egg boxes have increased by more than 100 percent to 76.50 TL.

Tea prices also continued their upward trend over the years. Tea, which was sold at 37.50 per kilo in 2021, was sold for 50 TL in 2022.

When we come to 2023, the weight of tea has increased to 84 liras.

Since we did not follow the high increases in cheese, olives and delicatessen products, we did not include the news we prepared this year.

Only increases in tea and egg prices reveal how much the cost of sahur meals has increased.
