First meeting on minimum wage to be held today

The minimum wage negotiations, which millions of employees look forward to, are starting. The first meeting will be held today, and the second on December 14.

TÜRK-İŞ Confederation, at the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, will bring up the figures in the Confederation's Hunger and Poverty Line Survey, the rates in food inflation and the income tax burden on wages. 
 
The process of determining the new minimum wage, which directly concerns more than 7 million employees and indirectly all citizens, will start today at 14.00 with the first meeting at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. TÜRK-İŞ Confederation, representing the workers in the Minimum Wage Determination Commission of 15 people, consisting of workers, employers and government representatives, will convene the Board of Presidents hours before this meeting. At the meeting, which will be attended by the managers of 34 unions that are members of the Confederation, the views and demands of the unions on the minimum wage will be received and the road map to be followed in the negotiations will be discussed. 
 

IT WILL BRING FOOD INFLATION TO THE AGENDA 

 
TÜRK-İŞ Confederation, in today's Minimum Wage Determination Commission, will bring the figures in the Confederation's Hunger and Poverty Line Survey, the figures in food inflation and the income tax burden on wages to the agenda. While Pevrul Kavlak, Secretary General of TÜRK-İŞ Confederation and Chairman of the Türk Metal Union, is the chairman of the workers' committee in the Commission this year, Veli Solak, Chairman of Haber-İş Union, İlhami Polat, Chairman of Tarım-İş Union, and Zekeriya Nazlım, President of Turkish Çimse-İş Union, are in the delegation.
 

HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED? 

 
The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 people, including five representatives from the employee, employer and government, determines the minimum wage. The Commission meets four times in December, on the basis of custom, as part of the work to determine the new minimum wage. The commission, chaired by one of the members determined by the Ministry, convenes with the participation of at least 10 members and decides by majority vote. In case of equality of votes, it is accepted that the party with the president wins the majority.
