While Turkish Grain Board's barley prices in the country are between 1550 and 1650 TL and imported barley from 2000 TL from abroad, TMO's general manager Ahmet Güldal said that there is a great uncertainty in the markets due to the pandemic. and stated that they made imports because it is not known what the upcoming process will bring.

While the farmers said, "TMO buys the barley from the farmers from 1550 to 1650 TL it buys from abroad with 2000 TL," TMO General Manager Ahmet Güldal said, "If we bought it from our own farmer, it would not contribute to the pool. In the same pool, we have done it. Product no shortage of Turkey in qualification but despite rising prices are still those who can not buy the product. As TMO, we ensure that the barley prices stay in the price range of 1600 to 1650 TL, and we support them by reducing the feed costs of livestock breeders," he said.

TMO GENERAL MANAGER: WE CANNOT RECEIVE ENOUGH PRODUCTS FROM THE FARMER!

While TMO's imports of barley on January 12 brought the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's unpredictability in grain to the agenda, this import also drew the reaction of the farmer.

Stating that the floor price announced on May 4 was welcomed by the farmers at that time, Güldal claimed that it was not correct to consider the reason for not getting enough products from the farmer despite the good price announced as an unpredictability. Stating that raising the base price announced on May 4 to buy products from the farmer later would not be a solution to the problem, Güldal said, "If we, as TMO, had increased the price, the prices would have increased outside of us," he said.

Responding to the allegations that TMO had to import from abroad for 2000 TL by not buying barley from 1600 TL from the domestic producer because it could not do duty loss, Güldal said, “It is true that we are not authorized to make duty loss by selling the product we bought from the domestic producer at a lower price, but We can do this as a corporate damage. We have the authority to do this, but we will have done it in the same pool. "It will not contribute to the pool."

As it is known, TMO's duty loss is only valid for products imported from abroad. In other words, TMO can sell the barley imported for 2000 TL from abroad for 1475 TL to regulate the market. The difference is covered by the treasury. However, TMO cannot sell the barley, which it will buy from the domestic producer for 1650 TL, for 1475 TL to regulate the market. If it sells, the loss in between is not covered by the Treasury.

IF THE PRICES GET HIGH ON JANUARY 19, WE CANCEL THE TENDER

TMO General Manager Ahmet Güldal said that in the 400 thousand tons of wheat import tender to be held on January 19, the tender could be canceled if the prices were realized well above their expectations.

Güldal stated that in order to preserve the wheat stocks in the country, the obligation to use imported wheat in pasta export is imposed and this will continue until April 31st. Agricultural policy expert, Ergin Kahveci, reacted to TMO's import of barley for 2000 TL while the barley prices in the country were at the level of 1650 TL and said, "The main duty of TMO is to regulate the agricultural markets in favor of the farmers. This is the foundation purpose. It is to enable the farmer to find the true value of his product. While there enough product qualification and Turkey Farmers According to TurkStat figures in a product that is 100 percent above the TMO if you are importing barley from abroad with 2000 TL then you need to give the answer to the question; "For whom does TMO regulate?" The main duty of TMO is to regulate to protect the farmer's product, making regulation on behalf of the consumer and industrialist is not its primary duty, but its secondary duty.

As it is known, TMO's duty loss is only valid for products imported from abroad. In other words, TMO can sell the barley imported for 2,000 TL from abroad for 1.475 TL to regulate the market. The difference is covered by the Treasury. However, TMO cannot sell the barley it will buy from the domestic producer for 1.650 TL at 1.475 TL in order to regulate the market. If it sells, the loss in between is not covered by the Treasury.
