Bonus payments continue to support public sector workers every year. A new application was made for the 21st time by the Confederation of Independent Public Employees' Unions (BASK) to the applications for the bonuses given to the workers to be given to the civil servants as well. BASK Chairman Bayram Zengin pointed out that the bonus should also be given to civil servants in order to end discrimination in the public regarding their application. Noting that the bonus given to public workers has been paid for 66 years, BASK Chairman Bayram Zengin stated that no bonuses are given to civil servants, and said, “Every year, 4 additional bonuses are paid to public employees in the amount of their half-months. The additional bonus payment is not related to being a union member or to a collective agreement, but is a regulation directly related to being employed as a worker in public institutions and organizations. Even though they have legal rights, the civil servants who work with workers in public institutions and organizations, often share the same room with them, are not paid even a 1 cent bonus.”

WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY ANSWERS TO OUR APPLICATIONS SO FAR

Stating that they made applications both during the Prime Ministry and the Presidency of President Erdoğan, Zengin added, “We have talked to political parties and parliamentary group deputies many times, and we have conveyed our demands many times. As BASK, we have applied for bonuses for the 21st time only during the Presidency, excluding our applications during the Prime Ministry period of Mr. Erdogan. We have not received a response so far. We think that the right to bonus, which is also included in the collective bargaining law, should be brought to the agenda.”

PURCHASING POWER IS DECREASING CIVIL SERVANTS ARE FASTER IMPOVERISHING

Emphasizing that the economic crisis has crippled the civil servants, Zengin emphasized that they were looking for a way out in the face of the economic problems of the civil servants, and said:

“The economic crisis and uncontrollable price movements rapidly reduce the purchasing power of civil servants who have no income other than their salaries and are prohibited from doing second work, and impoverish civil servants. It is the duty of the social state to ensure that civil servants and retirees receive a wage where they can lead a life worthy of human dignity and fulfill their family responsibilities.”
