Saadet Party Antalya Deputy Şerafettin Kılıç, in his statement on the anniversary of the great disaster, stated that the problems related to the earthquake continue and that the promised houses are still not delivered.

Saadet Party Antalya Deputy Şerafettin Kılıç talked about the troubles and problems experienced at the press conference on the earthquake.

Stating that the earthquake destroyed or severely damaged a total of 518 thousand 9 houses in 11 provinces, Kılıç stated that 131 thousand 577 houses were moderately damaged and the total number reached 649 thousand 586 houses.

WHY WERE THOSE WHO ALLOWED THEM NOT JUDGED?

Kılıç started by reminding the 1999 earthquake in Istanbul.

"It turned out that many of the buildings collapsed in the earthquake were built after 2000, and some of the contractors who built them fled abroad, and some were never even tried. The important question we need to ask here is: If the work done by these contractors requires them to be prosecuted, how and why were these works allowed? Why weren't these buildings inspected before the earthquake? Why were these licensed? Why weren't those who turned a blind eye to these things and gave these permissions to be prosecuted?" Kılıç asked.

“HOUSES TO BE DELIVERED ARE 10 PERCENT OF THE PROMISES”

Referring to the announced promises, Kılıç said, "While the Mass Housing Administration (TOKİ) has built around 700 thousand houses in the last 20 years, President Erdoğan, 1 month before the general elections, promised that 319 thousand houses will be delivered within 1 year. This figure corresponds to almost half of all the number of houses built in the last 20 years. Considering the numbers, it is obvious that this promise is unrealistic. However, we are not surprised that a mentality that considers every way to win elections makes empty promises. In February, around 20-30 thousand houses will be delivered as local election materials, and this figure is only around 10% of what was promised."

“DEMOGRAPHY OF THE EARTHQUAKE ZONE SHOULD BE PRESERVED”

"Post-earthquake work is not limited to housing and infrastructure. Studies that would bring social ties together and preserve the demographics of our provinces, especially Hatay, should have been carried out, but they were inadequate in this sense. Although a year has passed since the earthquake, a city plan has still not been created, and unfortunately urbanization is progressing worse than before the earthquake," Kılıç added.

NUMBER OF HOUSES DELIVERED IS 2 THOUSAND

Kılıç also stated that the number of houses delivered was very low.

"While the total number of houses demolished and to be demolished in Hatay is 241 thousand 212, the number of houses in the project phase is only 33 thousand 623 and the number of houses delivered is around 2 thousand 300. They supposedly delivered turnkey delivery of the houses for which they laid foundations in the region, and they write them down in official records as delivered houses. When we look at the most fundamental problems that are still unsolved on the first anniversary of the earthquake, only one question comes to mind; I wonder if they are trying to evacuate the earthquake zone, especially Hatay?" Kılıç said.

“EARTHQUAKE SUFFERERS SHOULD NOT FACE A SIMILAR STATEMENT”

Kılıç also claimed that the houses built would be given to citizens for money.

"Even though the government tries to create a perception as if it is giving away the houses it builds for free, the money for the houses it builds will be taken. When Mr. Murat Kurum was the minister of environment and urbanization, 100 thousand housing projects were promised. Within the scope of this project, TOKİ raffled off 5,000 houses in Istanbul. While citizens were waiting to buy houses for 250-300 thousand TL, now the price of these houses has increased up to 4 million lira. Moreover, there is not even a house with completed construction! Unfortunately, our citizens in the earthquake zone will encounter a similar situation. The prices and payment plans of the earthquake houses that will be sold to earthquake victims are not yet clear. It seems that a similar victimization that occurred in Istanbul will also be experienced in the earthquake region," Kılıç added.
