A street in the city was named after Special Operations Police Tunay Aydemir, who was martyred in the conflict with PKK terrorists on Mount Ararat while he was on duty in Iğdır in 1994.
The name of the street, which has been named after Martyr Aydemir for years, was changed to 100. Yıl Street by the trustee municipality in Iğdır.
While the change in question drew reactions, citizens who reached out to Milli Gazete regarding the issue demanded that the name of the street remain as Martyr Special Operations Police Tunay Aydemir.
THE TRUSTEE DID WHAT HDP DIDN'T DO
Citizens reached our newspaper after the name of Martyr Special Operations Police Tunay Aydemir Street in Iğdır was changed to 100. Yıl Street.
“Couldn't they find another street to change its name to?” Citizens who made their complaints also pointed out that the application was made by the trustee municipality.
A citizen speaking to our newspaper said, "The point that saddens us the most is that the appointed trustee made such a change that HDP mayors could not or did not dare to make."
