TEÇ-SEN Chairman Ümit Demirel pointed out that high inflation has caused a serious loss of purchasing power in the last 3 years and said, “In order to compensate for the loss in 3 years, a 100 percent increase should be made in January 2023 for civil servants, pensioners and minimum wage earners.”

While the bad course in the economy that started with the pandemic affected the purchasing power of the citizens, the research carried out by the All Education Employees Union (TEÇ-SEN) revealed the deplorable situation of the citizen. While the exorbitant increases in prices emptied the wallet of the citizen, it was stated that even if there was a 100 percent increase in all segments, the purchasing power of 3 years ago was reached.

“REAL INFLATION REACHED 400 PERCENT, WHILE INCREASES WAS 135 PERCENT”

Making a statement about the research, TEÇ-SEN Chairman Ümit Demirel pointed out that as a result of the policies implemented, civil servants, the minimum wage and retired people who make up 85 percent of the country, are dragged into the vortex of hunger, misery and poverty, “Bread, which is 1 Turkish Liras (TL) in 2020, it is 4 TL. In 2020, housing rental fees were between 850 and 1,000 TL, while they are currently between 4,000 and 5,000 TL. The price of 30 eggs increased from 13 TL to 45 TL. Average real inflation in the last 3 years has reached 400 percent. The rate of increase in the last 3 years for civil servants, minimum wage earners and retirees is 135 percent on average,” he added.

“100 PERCENT RISE SHOULD BE MADE”

Pointing out that the revaluation rate was announced as 122,93 percent for 2023, Demirel emphasized that in this case, all items received by the state from the citizens would increase by 122,93 percent and said, “Considering the 122,93 percent increase in the rate of increase; Civil servants, pensioners and minimum wage earners should be raised 100 percent in January 2023. Even if this increase is made, the citizen will only catch up with the purchasing power of 3 years ago. This demand is the silent cry of a mother and father. This request is from a grandfather, grandma. This demand is the future demand of a child, a young person.”
