Saadet Party Konya Deputy and Head of Youth Branch Abdulkadir Karaduman brought the government's promise of "one meal will be provided" to school-going students to the agenda of the TBMM. Speaking at the General Assembly of the Parliament, Karaduman emphasized that at least 42 percent of children in Turkey suffer from serious financial poverty.
“1 MEAL OF MEAL IS ALL TALK”
Saying that children are struggling to survive under great difficulties, Karaduman said, “Access to food, clothing, education tools and equipment for a healthy and balanced diet has become almost impossible for many of our children and their families with the increasing cost of living. It has been said before that there will be a free 1 meal in schools, but it has remained as a promise.”
“CUT IT FROM THE INTEREST YOU PAY TO THE MONEYLENDERS”
Drawing attention to the amounts transferred to interest, Karaduman said: “While the country's resources are being transferred to interest with billions of Turkish Liras (TL) every year, our children feel faint at school. While the taxes of this nation are transferred to loan sharks and subcontractors 3 meals a day, even 1 meal is often grudged in schools for our children. The practice of free 1 meal in our schools has now become mandatory. I say cut back on the interest you pay to usurers, not the meal of the children.”
