Istanbul’s use of public transport drops by 90 percent in COVID-19 outbreak

The recent curfew on citizens aged 20 or younger has further decreased the use of public transportation in Istanbul, placing the total decrease at 90 percent since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, a spokesperson for Istanbul Municipality said.

The recent curfew on citizens aged 20 or younger has further decreased the use of public transportation in Istanbul, placing the total decrease at 90 percent since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, Istanbul Municipality (IBB) Spokesperson Murat Ongun said. 
 
“With the revelation of Istanbul being the epicenter of the outbreak, compliance with self-isolation and the curfew on those 20 or younger has decreased the use of public transportation by more than 90 percent [since March 1],” Ongun said in an April 6 tweet.
 
The April 3 curfew has decreased the use of public transportation in the metropolis by 0.8 percent, the graph shared by Ongun revealed.
