Reported U.S. coronavirus deaths reach record 4,591 in 24 hours

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has reached 670,031 in the country, an increase of 35,048.

The number of reported deaths in the U.S. from the new coronavirus spiked to nearly double the prior record Thursday, as governors extended their lockdown orders, and the Trump administration released new federal guidelines to reopen the economy.
 
In the 24 hours ending at 8 p.m. Eastern time Thursday, 4,591 people were reported to have died from Covid-19, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of data from Johns Hopkins University. The prior record was 2,569 on Wednesday.
 
Until now, 56,236 patients suffering from the pandemic have recovered and have been discharged from hospital in the country.
 
New York, which is being hit the hardest by the novel coronavirus in the U.S, has so far reported more than 223,000 confirmed cases, with at least 15,000 deaths.
 
On the other hand, the U.S. President Donald Trump asserted on Thursday that the country has passed the peak of new coronavirus cases and claimed that some states would reopen this month.
 
“We'll be the comeback kids, all of us. We want to get our country back,” he said.
 
According to Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, coronavirus pandemic has so far claimed the lives of more than 147,378 people across the world.
